Dr. Judy Karin earned her AB in Physics from Mount Holyoke College, and her PhD in ultrafast optoelectronics at UC Santa Barbara. Judy was the High Holy Day Cantor at Santa Barbara Hillel for 28 years and served on the Board of SB Hillel for ten of those years. A member of Congregation B’nai B’rith and founding member of the Isla Vista Minyan, she’s been involved in Jewish education for adults, teens and children for over 20 years as a teacher, Hebrew and b’nei mitzvah tutor, education director, and workshop facilitator, and is thrilled to bring the Melton School curriculum to engage the Jewish adults in Santa Barbara.

Ethical issues such as justice, life and death, sexuality and community, with case studies from Talmudic, rabbinic and contemporary literature, and dramatic developments, experiences and issues from different periods in Jewish history as reflected in historical texts.
