Members of the Tribe
In this 6-session quest, we will dive deep into a fundamental, challenging question for Members of the Tribe: "What is the overarching purpose of living Jewishly?" Together we'll examine aspects of what might be considered the Jewish mission, a blend of practices that distinguish us as Jews, and what to do with this idea of being called the "Chosen People." Prepare to explore how Big Jewish Ideas and lessons from our history serve to enrich our actions as individuals and as a people.

Exploring a Forgotten World: A Social History of Medieval Jewry as Revealed in the Cairo Genizah
This course will reveal how a collection of worn-out scraps, fragments of texts and other manuscripts and documents found more than 1,000 years old open an otherwise hidden era of history. We will learn the story of the Genizah (a storeroom for timeworn sacred manuscripts and documents) as well as examine selected contents of the Genizah. Through translations of the original texts, the course will explore the daily lives and behaviors of Jewish men, women and families living along the Mediterranean during the Middle Ages.

Day: Thursdays, May 6 - July 8, 2021
Time: 7:00 - 8:30 pm Central via Zoom
